World Teacher's Day Celebrations in Tanzania
Nov 24, 2022
Teachers have an incredible amount of power. They have the ability to inspire, to nurture, and to shape the future of children. Everyday, teachers around the world go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure their students have everything they need to succeed.
In October, the PlayMatters project teams in Tanzania from the IRC and Plan International joined other implementing partners in celebrating teachers on a special event: World teachers’ day. The day celebrates and recognizes the teaching profession worldwide and provides an opportunity for reflection on the role of teachers in society. This year's theme, "The Transformation of Education Being with Teachers", highlighted the crucial role that teachers play in ensuring quality education for all.
The event was held in Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps and was organized by the IRC in collaboration with other education implementing agencies, including UNHCR, Plan International, Norwegian Refugee Council, Ubongo Kids, and Save the Children.
Speaking at the event, the guest of Honor from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Nyarugusu camp, Mr. Mrema said “I would like to appreciate the IRC education department, PlayMatters project for this initiative of organizing the world teachers day event in Nyarugusu camp. It is the first time to have this event, and we thank you for your efforts and commitment of bringing all teachers together and to recognize the work they have been doing to transform the knowledge of our beloved children.”
But this event was about more than just celebrating teachers; it was also about reflecting on the support that teachers need to truly thrive. For the PlayMatters project, this support is in building their capacity to use play-based teaching methods, which improves children’s learning experience and holistic development. Let's show our teachers how much we appreciate them by giving them the support they need to keep doing what they do best.
